Crude Drugs – Scope & Importance, Classification (Taxonomical, Morphological Chemical, Pharmacological); Cultivation, Collection & processing of Crude Drugs.

UNIT II: MEDICINAL & AROMATIC PLANTS

Cultivation and Utilization of Medicinal & Aromatic Plants in India. Genetics as applied to Medicinal herbs.

UNIT III: TISSUE CULTURE OF MEDICINAL PLANTS

Plant Tissue Culture as source of medicines, Plant Tissue Culture for enhancing secondary metabolite production (Withania somnifera, Rauwolfia serpentina, Catheranthus roseus, Andrographis paniculata, Dioscorea sp.); Anticancer drugs, Biogenesis of

Phytopharmaceuticals.

UNIT IV: ANALYSIS OF PHYTOCHEMICALS

Carbohydrates & derived products; Glycosides - extraction methods (Digitalis, Aloe, Dioscorea,); Tannins (Hydrolysable & Condensed types); Volatile Oils - extraction methods

(Clove, Mentha);

UNIT VII : TYPES OF PHYTOCHEMICALS_II

Alkaloids - extraction methods (Taxus, Papaver, Cinchona); Flavonoids- extraction methods, Resins- extraction methods.

UNIT VIII: APPLICATIONS OF PHYTOCHEMICALS

Application of phytochemicals in industryand healthcare; Biocides, Biofungicides, Biopesticides.
